Hardness testing is one of the most important areas of any quality control procedure. The Rockwell Hardness Tester is an instrument that gives a most reliable hardness rating, in various sizes and strengths, for metals of ferrous and non-ferrous type and even for some hard plastic substances. It is available in the most basic and traditional form, giving analogue readings only. Yet more sophisticated models are also available, such as the type that can give both analogue and digital readings, and even more evolved models that are quite state-of-the-art. This type of test is appropriate for thin and small parts. The hardness level of a particular substance is ascertained by measuring the level of the impression made by regular pressure from a particular load on an indenter. Both light and major loads are used to ascertain the hardness level of a substance. The depth of the applied pressure is also measured and duly noted.
